MARTA launched a project to retrofit 10 existing bus shelters to support BoldVu® exterior-rated, high-bright, single-faced 72-inch LCD displays. These digital shelters sit in high-traffic Atlanta locations with clear visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.
BACKGROUND
Outfront Media wanted to unlock more revenue and flexibility from each shelter location. Digital placements let advertisers daypart campaigns, swap content quickly, and secure last-minute buys without the delays of printed media.
CHALLENGES
The team needed a display cabinet that integrated the LCD module cleanly while still accommodating static ad copy on the shelter’s outer face. The cabinet also had to support service access, resist vandalism, and handle real-world outdoor exposure over time. Crews also had to trench primary electrical feeds to each site to deliver the required power.
SOLUTIONS
BoldVu® worked closely with the project team and Tolar Manufacturing in Corona, California—the original bus shelter manufacturer—to design and fabricate a cabinet that fit the shelters and supported field installation. Because the cabinet installs first, Transit Shelter Builders removed each shelter, completed the cabinet installation, and then reinstalled the shelter to finish the build. Transit Shelter Builders also coordinated with local utilities to provision and complete the electrical feed.
RESULTS
The finished shelters delivered a clean integration that satisfied the stakeholders across the project. Outfront Media increased ad sales, and advertisers gained more dynamic options for scheduling and creative updates. MARTA advanced its system with state-of-the-art shelter technology and positioned the network for future digital expansion.
