BoldVu® by MRI recently introduced its 17th generation outdoor LCD product line. The new platform improves energy efficiency, image quality, and power compatibility for outdoor deployments. BoldVu® designs turnkey outdoor displays for all-weather use, long service life, and lower operating costs. With Gen 17, businesses and cities can reduce annual power consumption without sacrificing performance.
Gen 17 products use redesigned power supply units, also called PSUs. These PSUs convert AC power to DC power more efficiently. Previous PSUs reached about 80% to 83% efficiency on 120Vac circuits. New PSUs reach up to 90% efficiency at the same input voltage. They typically exceed 93% efficiency when sites provide voltage above 208Vac. This improvement wastes less energy and supports lower electricity costs. It also helps customers reduce the carbon footprint of each display.
Gen 17 displays also use higher-efficiency mini-LEDs in the backlight system. Previous LEDs delivered 110 to 120 lumens per watt. The new LEDs deliver 130 to 170 lumens per watt. BoldVu® achieves this gain with more spectrally pure LEDs. The platform also uses more blocks in the dynamically dimmed backlight array.
These improvements increase color volume, saturation, image contrast, and black levels. Gen 17 displays achieve more than 102% of the NTSC color gamut. Improved color saturation can also make images appear brighter to the human eye. Best of all, this perceived brightness gain does not require more power.
These improvements deliver clear benefits for customers. Gen 17 displays waste less energy and help lower electricity costs. They also reduce environmental impact by using power more efficiently. The displays run cooler and quieter during operation. Lower heat and noise can improve user comfort around the display. Cooler operation can also help extend product life.
BoldVu® also made Gen 17 products easier to power. Previous product generations supported circuits up to 240Vac. The Gen 17 design platform supports a wider voltage range. It can operate from 120Vac to 277Vac. This broader range reduces compatibility issues at installation sites. It also gives customers more placement options.
